Congregation Avodat Yisrael is a Messianic
Jewish community that:
- Cultivates devotion to God lived out
through worship, education, and community service.
- Provides a setting to explore Messianic
faith and life for Jews, non-Jews, and intermarried
couples through offering a diversity of expression in
worship and practice.
- Identifies with the larger Messianic and Jewish communities.
A Messianic Congregation is a place where Jewish people and
those who support them can experience Jewish community life.
Without losing Jewish identity or giving up cherished and
meaningful traditions, members seek maturity in their
knowledge of G-d. Children are raised as Jews, with an
understanding of their heritage and an appreciation for
the Messiah. The community also seeks to be open, welcoming,
and traditional, so that everyone who comes feels
comfortable to explore spiritual life.
Worship is structured around Jewish traditions, prayer and
holidays. The service contains a wide range of worship
practice, from ancient chants to contemporary music to
choral psalm settings to Hebrew and English prayer. The
celebration of the festivals punctuates the life of the
congregation, contributing
to a sense of heritage and generational continuity.
Education for youth and adults of the congregation include
both training in Jewish traditions and customs, such as
reading Hebrew, and encouragement in messianic spirituality.
The congregation is actively involved in the life of the
larger Jewish community through service and participation
in community events.
Avodat Yisrael blends the teachings and practices of the
ancient Messianic Jewish community with modern community
developments. As a result, a contemporary house of Jewish
worship has emerged, faithful to its heritage and a new
generation of Messianic Jews.
